So what everyone`s been saying lately is that Pacquiao vs Mosley is a bad fight. I`m not so sure. I wouldn`t call it a bad fight, but maybe the wrong fight. It’s the wrong fight because out of all the reasons to make this fight happen, the only good reason was for money (And that isn`t enough of a reason to satisfy the boxing public.) Here`s a few reasons that make it the wrong fight:
1. There`s no rivalry nor a chance at ever making this into one. Shane Mosley is too old to think that He`s ever going to "create" any new rivalries with anyone. Pacquiao is young enough and had He chosen to fight a younger fighter like Saul Alvarez or Andre Berto (The only other 2 welterweights worth mentioning) they are both young enough to start a rivalry, a trilogy perhaps? The problem is they are still both unproven and wouldn`t draw the $$$ that Mosley would. 2. With His last 2 performances, Mosley didn`t exactly prove He earned the chance to fight Pacquiao. Shane had a decent start to the bout with Mayweather but fizzled soon afterwards and Against Sergio Mora….. Forget it! He definitely did Himself an injustice after that performance. 3. Another reason would be that maybe this fight should`ve happened instead of the Pacquiao-Cotto fight. If Manny fought and defeated Mosley before Mosley ever fights Mayweather, then maybe there wouldn't be so much criticism towards Pacquiao now! 4. The only good thing I can say on the behalf of this fight is that I love seeing what Nazim Richardson can do with an older fighter. Yes, I know He trained Mosley for His last 2 duds, But He also trained Him when no one gave Him a shot vs Margarito. Also look at the work He`s done with Bernard Hopkins. Bernard seems to find the fountain of youth through Richardson every training camp and I can`t wait for His rematch with Jean Pascal. Anyone fighting under Brother Nazim always has a shot in My book. So I know what You`re thinking now, If this is the wrong fight, what`s the right fight?? This is the "AHA" moment, Pacquiao-Marquez III and here`s why: 1. This is a great rivalry!!! People still argue over who won the first 2 fights. The incorrectly scored first round in the first fight, the many boxing fans and media outlets that had Marquez winning the second fight. It`s a better fight too, because Marquez` counterpunching gives Pacquiao trouble all the time making it a lot more interesting, and Marquez is a name that can make $$$ (maybe not as much as Mosley, but enough where everyone walks away happy, EVEN THE FANS!!!!) 2. If they did this fight now, Pacquiao would still be able to drop down in weight and make the fight happen at 140lbs. The fight wouldn`t make sense at any other weight. As time passes, just like other fighters, Pacquiao will see how much more difficult it is to shed those needed pounds to make weight. Who knows, Pacquiao may not be able to make 140lbs in 2 years if it takes that long to make a third fight with Marquez. 3. Recently Pacquiao has fired back at critics over the fight with Shane Mosley. If He and His Promoter and the rest of His team would`ve chosen Shane Mosley earlier in His career and given Marquez the third fight that everyone wanted to see now, then maybe the criticism wouldn`t have been so loud.
I know I failed to mention Floyd Mayweather, but He kinda took Himself off the market. Saying Alvarez and Berto were the only 2 welterweights worth metioning was not a dig at Mayweather, We all want to see that fight happen. It would be what boxing needs more than any of these fights.
